Temporarily disable IVR and call forwarding, and make sure the line accepts international calls.

Choose voice verification: Meta calls the line and reads a six-digit code aloud.

Can I use WhatsApp Business API with a landline or UAN?+
Yes. Meta supports fixed-line numbers on the WhatsApp Business Platform, verified by voice call rather than SMS — the line receives an automated call reading a six-digit code. It is not Meta's recommended number type, but it is supported, and for a business whose UAN is already on every invoice it is often the right one.
Do I need a new SIM or a new number?+
No. That is the point — the number your customers already call becomes the number they can message. You keep taking voice calls on the same line.
Why does my UAN fail verification?+
Almost always the IVR. Meta requires call forwarding and IVR features disabled during verification, because the automated call has to reach a line that simply answers. Extensions cannot be used either — register the base number, not an extension. Switch the IVR back on once verification completes.
Can the number already be on WhatsApp?+
No. A number already registered on WhatsApp — including the free WhatsApp Business app — has to be deleted from it first. This catches out businesses whose office number was quietly registered on someone's phone years ago.
Does this work outside Pakistan?+
Yes. The capability is Meta's, not country-specific — any fixed line that can receive an international voice call and has forwarding and IVR temporarily disabled can be registered. UAN and PTCL are simply what these numbers are called in Pakistan.
