WhatsApp Guest Calling: invite anyone, even without WhatsApp
A call link now lets someone join a WhatsApp call from their browser without having WhatsApp at all — which quietly removes the most common objection to running a demo on the channel your customer already messages you on.
What happened
Announced on October 14, 2026, Guest Calling lets you invite anyone to a WhatsApp call by link — even if they do not have a WhatsApp account. Calls are free, end-to-end encrypted, and have no time limits.
To create one: open the Calls tab, tap the + icon, create a call link, and send it. Only people who *do* have a WhatsApp account can create a link, and each link URL is different so they cannot be guessed.
Guests open the link in a computer browser, type a name, and wait in a waiting room until the host admits them. Group calls run to 32 people.
Guests can share their screen, use reactions and raise a hand. They cannot see other participants' phone numbers, send messages, or add anyone else to the call — and the host can remove a guest at any time.
Meta says Google and Outlook calendar integrations are coming, so a WhatsApp call link can be created straight from a calendar invite.
What it means for your business
It removes the "do you have WhatsApp?" question from a sales call. Until now, moving a chat to a WhatsApp call meant the other side needed the app. A prospect evaluating you can now join a demo from a laptop browser with nothing installed.
The guest restrictions are what make this usable for business rather than just family calls. A waiting room means you choose who gets in, and guests cannot harvest each other's phone numbers — which matters the moment you put more than one customer on the same call.
The calendar integration is the part worth watching. Booking a slot and issuing the call link in the same step is exactly the gap our Google Calendar integration already closes for appointments — once Meta ships it for calls, the booking and the call stop being two separate systems.
One honest caveat: this is consumer WhatsApp calling, not the WhatsApp Business Calling API. Guest Calling lives in the Calls tab of a normal WhatsApp account. It is excellent for a founder or a small sales team running demos, but it is not a channel you automate, route or log — conversations you need assigned and owned still belong in a shared inbox.
