Why contact files are such a mess
Phones export contacts as vCard (.vcf) — a text format where every contact is a block of fields. Spreadsheets, CRMs and messaging platforms almost all want CSV instead, so moving contacts between a phone and a business system means converting between the two. Most online converters do this by uploading your file to a server you know nothing about, which is a genuinely bad idea for a file full of customers' names and phone numbers. This one parses the file locally in your browser, which is both faster and the only version of this tool we would be willing to use ourselves.

Is my contact file uploaded anywhere?+
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser using local JavaScript — the file never leaves your device, and we never see it. You can verify this by disconnecting from the internet after the page loads; the converter still works.
What is a VCF file?+
VCF (vCard) is the standard contact format phones and address books export. Each contact is a block starting with BEGIN:VCARD, holding fields like FN (full name), TEL (phone) and EMAIL. It is a text format, which is why it converts cleanly to a spreadsheet.
Can I open the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets?+
Yes. The download is a standard comma-separated file with a header row, so it opens directly in Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets or any CRM import screen.
Which fields are converted?+
Name, phone number, email and organisation — the fields that actually matter for messaging and CRM imports. A contact with several phone numbers produces one row per number, so nothing is silently dropped.
Will these contacts work for WhatsApp broadcasts?+
A clean CSV is the starting point, but exporting a phone's address book does not create permission. WhatsApp requires opt-in: people must have agreed to hear from your business. Importing a scraped or purchased list is the fastest route to blocks, a damaged quality rating and a restricted number.
Do numbers need a country code?+
For messaging, yes — always store numbers in full international format (country code first, no plus sign, spaces or dashes). Numbers saved in local format are the most common reason bulk sends fail.
